Current Events Post - ACORN in Turmoil
September 17, 2009

ACORN stands for Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. It is an organization that has traditionally been involved with helping low income people with various things such as getting affordable housing, better wages, better schools and such things as voter registration drives and other mostly liberal causes, though the group publicly states it is non-partisan.

ACORN in Turmoil!

ACORN has been involved in a number of scandals in recent years. Over the last few years, dozens of ACORN employees have been arrested and convicted of voter fraud for creating false voter registrations. ACORN employees have fabricated names, created duplicate names and even forged names from a phonebook. In recent days, a courageous pair of young journalists - Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe - conducted an undercover "sting" operation in several local ACORN branches around the country. The couple posed as a "pimp" and a "prostitute." In the operation, the pair pretended to be looking for help and advice on how they could get a low income home in which to conduct their prostition. In several shocking encounters, ACORN employees advised the couple how to lie on their tax forms, how to avoid taxes, how to conduct illegal activities such as prostitution without getting caught and even how to smuggle underage girls from other countries into the United States to be "employed" in their brothels!

Naturally these videos have caused outrage across the country and the axe is beginning to fall on ACORN. Both the House and the Senate have voted to stop all funding of ACORN - which has received millions of tax dollars over the years to fund its activities. The US Census Bureau has severed all ties with ACORN. The organization was to help the bureau with its nationwide census taking next year. Several states and cities have now suspended money that was to have gone to ACORN and are conducting their own investigations into the organization's activities. Way to go Giles and O'Keefe!

ACORN is an organization that has been engaged in apparently illegal activity on a widespread basis for many years. It looks like judgment day has finally come!
