Are we slaves or free people?

by Herbert Richmond
(houston, texas)

This country was built on the premise of freedom, virtue, honor and self reliance. For us to become mere dependent illiterate humans who need guidance and support from government officials is for us to give away our heritage of independence. We are not socialists nor communists, we are individuals who have been given a constitutional foundation to build upon. Wake up free people.

Are we slaves or free people?
by: robert

Hello Herbert,

Good question. If, as the founders say, we are endowed with certain inalianble rights, then it would follow that God would desire us to be a free people. What the peeps fail to remember that along with freedom comes responsibility. If our resposibilities are shirked, we become slaves to whatever systems of tyranny our advesary places in conflict with our liberty.

Thanks for the link and am glad I finally got a chance to read one of your posts :)

~ Blessings

The Heritage of Freedom
by: Herbert R.

Human freedom is the heritage of human birth, the extension of the volition of the soul as the uncaused cause of man's thought and action. Freedom is self-determination, the function of free will uncoerced by threat or violence and not determined by environment, society, or genetics. Freedom as both our human heritage and spiritual heritage has also become our national heritage. The founding fathers rose to the challenge of "Give me liberty or give me death" and prefaced the Constitution with their determination to "secure the blessings of liberty. The existence and perpetutation of national liberty demands respect for legitimately established authority and depends on the cumulative personal integrity of all citizens, believers and unbelievers. May the Grace of God be with us.

Apathy Bondage Dependency
by: Sarah Miles

So many are wading deeper and deeper into the waters of complacency, apathy, bondage and into dependency. So, because many didn't have to do the fighting to get here, didn't fight while being here, and because it's so many generations back for them, it's all been forgotten? They should be broadcasting that John Adams TV Drama (Actor Paul Giammati) about how much was sacrificed to get here, what they gave up. Just one showing of Kirk Cameron's film Monumental would straighten out the facts - it was like a 10-to-15-year-long endeavor to get here for our Founding Fathers, just to break free from tyranny. It's a sad and frustrating re-education process to get folks thinking again about what really matters. Keep at it.

Becoming a Third World Country or Restoration to a Republic?
by: Anonymous

To Harvey/ What is happening is legal plunder. Plans include, protectionism(for unions), an expansion of benefits(unemployment, welfare, social security disability), subsidies, encouragement to get food stamps, progressive taxation, public(government)schools(where socialism rules), guaranteed jobs(aka.,public sector type), minimum wages, a right to relief, free credit, a right to the tools of labor, free credit, and so on, and so on. All these plans as a whole-with their common aim of legal plunder-constitute socialism. Until the principle of justice, peace, order, stability, harmony and logic return to this country, we will stay on the course toward less freedom.

No slavery - awaken the sheep
by: Harvey

To Herbert
Last year I wrote that we are seeming to wake-up to the socialistic world you speak of. I still believe it, as though the middle-road American sleeping giant is stirring. The importance of the upcoming election is paramount. Let this not be about only one man however. We have a multitude of congressmen, sadly from both parties, who are either lockstep with the President or afraid to confront him or simply . . . afraid. But beware - MANY in this country are now beginning to rely on Washington. The handouts are many and church attendance is down. Many have the mindset of we do not need God, we have the government! WE must continue to inform and pray else America's demise is near.

Lost in a sea of despair
by: herbert r.

Since my last writing, our country has evolved into crony-capitalism and an increasing welfare-state. Almost everyday, policies are put forth which adds more barriers to freedom. Moral degeneration is on the increase, class-warfare is being preached from the White House on a daily basis. The acceptance of slavery by the majority of people in this country is at an all-time high. We are truly in the cruel grip of apostasy in this land. The tentacles of socialism and bureaucracy strangle and destroy what is left of free enterprise. The election in November is of dire importance, if the present president is re-elected any hope for moving back to a constitutional form of government will be crumbled.

freedom evaporating
by: herbert richmond

Since I last wrote about freedom versus slavery, the current state of affairs sadly has become a reality. The current administration's stimulus bills, regulations, executive orders, other financial bills passed in congress and signed into law have evolved from a stealth like form to enslaving tentacles. These mandates are strangling the last bit of free enterprise/capitalism into a form of crony capitalism and facism. Therefore our constitution is not being recognizied, our freedoms are being diminished, lawlessness is going unchecked, more people on some form of welfare, unemployment at record levels,it is a sad situation. There was an uprising of voices crying for deliverance from this tyranny in the form of the Tea Party, but still they are small in number compared with the majority of people in this country. The level of dependency is growing at an alarming rate. Do we have to become a third world country before there is a revolt in this country? Our precious heritage is slipping away.

Term Limits - not slavery
by: harvey

I suggest we have always had a system that works. The recent debt limit fiasco was merely handicapped by a majority who spews love of the little man and then retires to their secluded estates. In other words, except for some Tea Partiers and a few others the Congressmen and Administration in D.C. are NOT really concerned with OUR situation. It is not the system which has failed us but rather representatives who push all of the buttons to declare victory while doing little to empathize with their own future generations. I wonder what our elected officials will say to their children and grandchildren 10-20 years from now regarding the financial heritage left behind.

We are only slaves to ourselves, to our unwillingness to elect, and hold to the fire, those who are our neighbors. You know what? I think term limits would help our system - and perhaps lead to representatives who are EAGER to stand-up and be regarded as one of our own.

Stealth Slavery
by: herbert richmond

Well Congress just increase the debt limit. The majority of politicians are proclaiming victory for the American people. In reality, taxes will rise, unemployment will increase, poverty will increase and more people will be offered access to government programs which will enslave them to the shackles of government control. In other words, placed on a modern day plantation. I wonder if the principle of freedom still exists within the minds of a majority of people in this once great country. Please people wake up and realize that you are losing your heritage which was won on many battefields at the cost of blood, sweat and tears. Freedom can be regained.

Majority Still Sleep
by: herbert richmond

Based on the current polling I have seen posted, there are still a lot of people in this country wanting higher taxes to ease the national debt. This indicates to me that either this group is locked on government programs, subsidies, and or some type of welfare payments or not well educated on capitalism. There is still a lot of work to accomplish if we are to become a freedom orientated nation.

Back to Reality?
by: herbert richmond

I am reading more and more news articles that confirm the power grab by government officials. However i did read some polls that indicate voters are beginning to label themselves as independents and more importantly as libertarians. So I am more optimistic that the free thinking people in this nation are indeed beginning to wake up, take notice, and at least start the process of restoring liberty to this great nation. It is a tall tedious effort but with dog-matic perserverance and God's grace we shall overcome.

Free People Are Finally Waking-up
by: Harvey

The premise you speak of was legitimate. The "giving away" is currently happening . . . but hope is in the air. The last few years has proved to be an awakening. In other words, I sense we are "waking-up". The organizations and spokesmen for our Christian heritage are part of the mix, perhaps leading the way, but certainly not alone. We are now paying attention not only to the demise of our heritage but to how to repel the causes of that demise. We are more alert now to the big government and its ultimate scheme to create a "government nation" . . . and we are NOT accepting it. I agree with the writer but suggest we are coming alive. All need to listen and vote and act and "wake-up". Tell your friends and neighbors . . . "Proclaim liberty throughout the land and to all the inhabitants thereof." (Lev. 25:10)
