Are we slaves or free people?

by herbert richmond
(houston, texas)

This country was built on the premise of freedom, virtue, honor and self reliance. For us to become mere dependent illiterate humans who need guidance and support from government officials is for us to give away our heritage of independence. We are not socialists nor communists, we are individuals who have been given a constitutional foundation to build upon. Wake up free people.

freedom evaporating
by: herbert richmond

Since I last wrote about freedom versus slavery, the current state of affairs sadly has become a reality. The current administration's stimulus bills, regulations, executive orders, other financial bills passed in congress and signed into law have evolved from a stealth like form to enslaving tentacles. These mandates are strangling the last bit of free enterprise/capitalism into a form of crony capitalism and facism. Therefore our constitution is not being recognizied, our freedoms are being diminished, lawlessness is going unchecked, more people on some form of welfare, unemployment at record levels,it is a sad situation. There was an uprising of voices crying for deliverance from this tyranny in the form of the Tea Party, but still they are small in number compared with the majority of people in this country. The level of dependency is growing at an alarming rate. Do we have to become a third world country before there is a revolt in this country? Our precious heritage is slipping away.

Term Limits - not slavery
by: harvey

I suggest we have always had a system that works. The recent debt limit fiasco was merely handicapped by a majority who spews love of the little man and then retires to their secluded estates. In other words, except for some Tea Partiers and a few others the Congressmen and Administration in D.C. are NOT really concerned with OUR situation. It is not the system which has failed us but rather representatives who push all of the buttons to declare victory while doing little to empathize with their own future generations. I wonder what our elected officials will say to their children and grandchildren 10-20 years from now regarding the financial heritage left behind.

We are only slaves to ourselves, to our unwillingness to elect, and hold to the fire, those who are our neighbors. You know what? I think term limits would help our system - and perhaps lead to representatives who are EAGER to stand-up and be regarded as one of our own.

Stealth Slavery
by: herbert richmond

Well Congress just increase the debt limit. The majority of politicians are proclaiming victory for the American people. In reality, taxes will rise, unemployment will increase, poverty will increase and more people will be offered access to government programs which will enslave them to the shackles of government control. In other words, placed on a modern day plantation. I wonder if the principle of freedom still exists within the minds of a majority of people in this once great country. Please people wake up and realize that you are losing your heritage which was won on many battefields at the cost of blood, sweat and tears. Freedom can be regained.

Majority Still Sleep
by: herbert richmond

Based on the current polling I have seen posted, there are still a lot of people in this country wanting higher taxes to ease the national debt. This indicates to me that either this group is locked on government programs, subsidies, and or some type of welfare payments or not well educated on capitalism. There is still a lot of work to accomplish if we are to become a freedom orientated nation.

Back to Reality?
by: herbert richmond

I am reading more and more news articles that confirm the power grab by government officials. However i did read some polls that indicate voters are beginning to label themselves as independents and more importantly as libertarians. So I am more optimistic that the free thinking people in this nation are indeed beginning to wake up, take notice, and at least start the process of restoring liberty to this great nation. It is a tall tedious effort but with dog-matic perserverance and God's grace we shall overcome.

Free People Are Finally Waking-up
by: Harvey

The premise you speak of was legitimate. The "giving away" is currently happening . . . but hope is in the air. The last few years has proved to be an awakening. In other words, I sense we are "waking-up". The organizations and spokesmen for our Christian heritage are part of the mix, perhaps leading the way, but certainly not alone. We are now paying attention not only to the demise of our heritage but to how to repel the causes of that demise. We are more alert now to the big government and its ultimate scheme to create a "government nation" . . . and we are NOT accepting it. I agree with the writer but suggest we are coming alive. All need to listen and vote and act and "wake-up". Tell your friends and neighbors . . . "Proclaim liberty throughout the land and to all the inhabitants thereof." (Lev. 25:10)
