Ben Franklin

I have a Ben Franklin question for you i was wondering if you could help me with. On nearly every website i have found, it says that Ben Franklin was never reconciled to his son William who was a loyalist governor of New Jersey. I have found ONE website that says they WERE reconciled and that William came to visit Ben at Southhampton while he was returning to America from his ambassadorship in France. Can you shed any light on this matter? Which is the truth? Thanks a lot!

Ben Franklin never reconciled with his son
by: Doug Heller

I don't believe they ever were reconciled. I turn to Benjamin Franklin's will, which was revised shortly before his death. Though providing well for the other members of his family, he left only a small bequest to William, explaining:

"The part he acted against me in the late war, which is of public notoriety, will account for my leaving him no more of an estate he endeavored to deprive me of."
