Protect the 2nd Amendment

I believe that only people in the army should have guns because they are using them right and that is to protect our country and themselves and their family.

The reality is, it is the armies of the world that have committed the largest scale crimes against humanity. The Revolutionary war generation came from an era where they witnessed first hand the abuses of the military over the people, and in order to ensure that the people would always have the means and the option to throw off a tyrant, they added this amendment.

Unfortunately today the second amendment is no more than a self defense and "right to hunt" amendment. What the government has done is ensure the military is so large and powerful today, that the ability for the people to throw off a tyrant by force is impossible. The second amendment, though admirable, is void because of the size we the people have allowed our government to grow to.

What I find amazing is how quick the average citizen is willing to delegate their rights to the government. The American spirit is dying when we see a generation like this, so willing to trust the deeds and judgment of the federal government over their own.

But should citizens have guns?
by: The Minuteman

Thanks for your comment Jeniysia, here's something for you to consider. The Founding Fathers put the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights to guarantee citizens the right to bear arms in order to protect themselves from... not only outside invaders, but also from the government itself. You said you think our soldiers should be allowed to have guns because they "use them right." What happens if they use them wrong? For example, what if an army General would try to overthrow the President and take Washington DC captive. Should citizens be able to defend themselves against someone like this? If no one has any guns, how will they defend themselves from bad guys within the government itself? Also, how will they defend themselves against common criminals? What if someone breaks into your house and you have no way to defend yourself? You wouldn't be able to call the army and have them come and take care of the criminal. Then it would be too late. The criminal would have stolen things or hurt you and been long gone before the army could get there. These are a few reasons why citizens are also allowed to have guns.
